Steel industry: Ferromanganese is an indispensable deoxidizer and desulfurizer in the steelmaking industry. Good steel needs to be deoxidized and desulfurized during smelting, and the use of deoxidizers will greatly increase its cost.
Silicon manganese alloy is used for steelmaking. The melting points of the deoxidized products MnSiO₃ and Mn₂SiO₄ are 1270°C and 1327°C respectively. They have the advantages of low melting point, large particle size, easy floating, and good deoxidation effect.
Among these uses, the steelmaking, foundry and ferroalloy industries are users of ferrosilicon. Together they consume about 90% of the ferrosilicon. Among various grades of ferrosilicon, 75% ferrosilicon is widely used at present.
Ferrochrome is an iron alloy composed of chromium and iron. It is an important alloy additive in steelmaking. High carbon ferrochrome is made from chromite and silicon as slag flux. It is a solid solution of chromium, iron and carbon, a complex compound of chromium, iron and carbon.
The role of molybdenum in steel can be summarized as improving hardenability, improving thermal strength, preventing temper brittleness, improving remanence and coercivity, and corrosion resistance in certain media, and preventing pitting corrosion.
Ferrovanadium is a ferroalloy obtained by reducing vanadium pentoxide with carbon in an electric furnace, or by reducing vanadium pentoxide by silicon thermal method in an electric furnace.
Ferrotitanium, an intermediate alloy of titanium and iron, is used as a purifier for steel. Production process: Ferrotitanium is an alloy composed of titanium and iron.
Compared with general metal silicon, the content of high-purity metal silicon is higher, usually above 99.9, up to 99.99. The surface of high-purity metal silicon is obviously different from metal silicon, brighter and smoother than general metal silicon.
